About Me
In June 1994, I founded Integrated Environmental Solutions (IES) in order to develop the suite of integrated building design and simulation tools. My objectives were to overcome many of the obstacles to the uptake of building simulation products and ultimately fully integrate them into the building design process. I realized that the only way to make these concepts and ideas effective within the design process was to develop them in a fully commercial environment.
I gained a BSc in Environmental Engineering from the University of Strathclyde, and also spent nine years in the ABACUS unit, at the Department of Architecture in the University of Strathclyde, undertaking a PhD and Post Doctoral research. During this time ABACUS was one of the foremost departments in the application of computers in the building design process.
IES is my passion, sometimes to the detriment of my family but I think they understand. But IES is also the passion for most of the IES staff, not in some impractical tree-hugging sense but through pragmatism, innovation and a pursuit of excellence. Nevertheless in this blog I have more freedom to write about items that would not be appropriate for the IES blog. My blog will be my personal views and observations, but from time to time I will refer to event, developments and ideas relating to IES. I make no apologies for doing so.
